August 1, 2017
Can you believe we’re already preparing for the 2017-2018 Religious Education Program here in our Parish? Not only is it a new year, it is a new year with our new pastor, Father Joseph Elston. The program will continue to be offered on Sunday mornings. Each Sunday, our program begins with the 10:00 a.m. Family Mass in our church, followed by formal instruction from 11:00 a.m. until noon in the Monsignor John J. Bendik Pastoral Center. All students and their families are encouraged to attend and celebrate the 10:00 a.m. Mass together. Attendance at Sunday Mass is an essential part of our faith. Children’s Liturgy of the Word for Pre-K to grade 2 is offered during this Mass and is a wonderful way for the children to better understand the Scriptures on their level.
Classes for students in grades K-7 will begin on Sunday, September 10, 2017. Students in grade 2 will prepare for First Holy Communion on May 6, 2018. As was stated in our letter last year, First Holy Communion is a two-year program and, as such, our grade 1 students will be included in many of the activities associated with the preparation of this sacrament so that they will be better prepared and looking forward to receiving Jesus. Students in grade 7 will begin their two-year preparation for Confirmation.
Enclosed is a registration form for 2017-2018. Please return this form in an envelope, along with your registration fee, by dropping it in the collection basket or bringing/mailing it to the Parish Office. Please make checks payable to SJE Parish Community. We encourage you to pre-register at this time. Your prompt response is critical for the final preparations of our program. You will receive our 2017-2018 Religious Education Calendar the first day of class.
If registered by the August 27th deadline, the fee for this year is $20 per child or $50 for three or more children. After August 27th, the late registration fee is $25 per child or $55 for three or more children. Registration fees cover some of the costs of books, supplies and our beautiful retreats. If the fees prove to be a burden for your family, please contact Sister Kieran Williams, IHM, at the Parish Office at 570-654-0053. (Please note that fees for the Sacramental Program of Confirmation are additional and will be discussed at a parent meeting.)
We depend on many dedicated volunteers for the success of our program. If you would like to volunteer for the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Catechist, Substitute, Aide, Hall Monitor, or if you need further assistance, please contact Sister Kieran at the phone number listed above. We are so grateful for your continued love, prayers and support of our Religious Education Program.
We ask for your prayers for us as we begin a new chapter in the continuation of our Religious Formation Program, and be assured of our prayers for you and your family especially as you prepare for the beginning of this new school year.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Joseph P. Elston Sr. Kieran Williams, IHM
